Chapman plans to create different mats for different seasons, keeping in step with changing growing cycles. Complete with fun graphics and instructions, Chapman’s design makes gardening much more approachable to budding green thumbs.

Poor Obama: not only does he have to contend with Blue Dogs, but now it seems he is being poisoned by lead found in the People’s Garden at the White House.
In truth, the levels, while not ideal, are far from unusual or unsafe for an urban garden. The Guardian states:
Gardening with your children provides valuable lessons, family togetherness time and plenty of fresh veggies to dress your table.
I’m a big slacker this year. My big, fat, Eco-Confession? I didn’t plant a garden this year. This means we have been relying on farmers markets and u-pick to survive! Ugh.
But, wait… I have a pretty good excuse. We moved this Spring. Our Spring was consumed with painting, cleaning, packing and unpacking. It was pretty crazy around here. Then my beloved Mama passed away and I didn’t want to do much of anything for a good two months. Now, I’m up and running… but my yard is far from it! Since this is a new to us home, there was already a bunch of yard work to do. Needless to say, we haven’t gotten around to much of it, which includes clearing the garden beds and replanting.
So, that’s the plan this weekend. Get those beds cleared and start our transplants inside the house. Good thing I have plenty of kids.

“How do you grow your own food in the big city if you ain’t got no land?” Easy - do what these Brooklynites did and start a Truck Farm! True, you don’t usually think “1986 Dodge Ram when you think “green vehicle“, but this pickup with ripe rows of arugula, lettuce, broccoli, herbs, tomatoes and habaneros thriving right in its flatbed, is definitely an exception. To make matters even more awesome, “four-wheel farmer” Ian Cheney and his partner Curt Ellis of Wicked Delicate, have even been documenting their automofarm in a series of musical, lyric-accompanied, video shorts (”The recession was upon me, my health was slipping away. I decided what I needed, was more vegetables everyday.”) resulting in both hilarity and a cult-like following as they spread love (and broccoli) around New York City.
We’ve seen trees molded to form fantastic living chairs before, and now a young group of German architects are bending trees to their will to form a new breed of living architecture. The team is calling their tree-shaping system “Botany Building,” and while it may not be the cure to climate change, it’s an incredibly interesting way to create living structures.
